Optional Practical Training - Reporting Portal

Post Completion OPT Reporting Requirements (First Year of OPT)
  • Changes to your name, physical address or mailing address must be reported to OISS within 10 days of the change occuring.
  • When starting or changing employment, you will need to provide a copy of your offer letter as well as job description.
  • Important information about the "Job Description" document:

    You are responsible for providing a written description of how your practical training opportunity relates to your major area of study, which the DSO must review and retain. The description should include:

    • Job title, employer name, major area of study, whether full time or the average hours worked per week, and a brief explanation of how the job is directly related to your studies.
    • An explanation of the regular duties and the nexus between those duties and the degree described
  • Please also be sure to enter your employment information into the SEVP portal.
  • Please Note: OISS requires that you submit a report via this reporting portal in addition to any updates you may make to the SEVP portal.
  • OISS may request additional updates if questions arise regarding your status or your data in SEVIS.
STEM OPT Reporting Requirements
  • You must get OISS Approval before the follow changes occur:
    • Changes to your Employer Name or Address
    • Material Changes to your current I-983
    • New Employer
  • The following must be reported to OISS within 10 days of the change or event
    • Changes to your Name, Physical Address, or Mailing Address
    • Any Termination of Employment must be reported, wether it was voluntary termination or not
  • Every 6 months from the start date on your EAD card, you must submit a report to OISS even if no changes have occured.
  • Annual Self-Evaluations are due at 12 months and 24 months from the start of your EAD card.
  • OISS may request additional updates if questions arise regarding your status or your data in SEVIS.
